The landing page is the first view that potential customers will get when they arrive at your website.  If you have a well optimized landing page it can make all the difference and help convert potential customers into sales and into loyal clients.

As you start looking at building and optimizing your landing page there are certain basics that shoudl be looked at.  The first thing you should do is gradually guide your viewers towars the sales pitch, but make sure that it is not forceful or blatant or the viewer will just click away from your site.  The website should not have too much going on by not having a lot of unwanted material on the web page, which can also make the viewer click off the site.  If you are actually selling a product then you should have all the product details to view as  well as the price and discounts, but if you are an affiliate you should just have a product review with all the facts and no hype.

The layout of your landing page should open quickly and not take an age to open everything on the page.  The onpage design is very important so you should choose a longtail keyword that has a decent amout of monthly searches and add these keywords to your page.  These keywords should appear in the title, desription and approximately in 2-5% of the landing page.  If you add these keywords to quality content that the reader will find beneficial then you are well on the way to getting decent amounts of traffic.

Overall, the success of a good landing page is to guide the visitor to do what you want and to provide them with the information they need.  You should finally add a strong call to action because if they are not told what to do then they will simply just click off the page and buy through another website.
